Fitting your custom guitar

T.D. Hibbs Guitars

Some of the attraction of having a custom guitar built is not only being able to choose the colours and woods species, but also being able to choose the shapes and sizes that work for you. The following will give you an idea of what to look for and what we can change to make your guitar easier to play.

The dreadnought is the standard size guitar, which the majority of stores will carry as stock. If you find that a dreadnought is too large for you, then you will want to try a "000" or "00" size guitar.

My standard nut and saddle sizes are as follows 1 ¾" (nut) and 2 1/8" (saddle). By reducing the nut and saddle widths, we can create a narrow fret board. For those of you with small hands, this will aid in making the guitar easier to play. For people with larger hands, we can increase the nut and saddle sizes, giving us a larger fret board.

The neck of each guitar is hand shaped. It becomes a balance between decreasing the neck enough to make it comfortable without affecting the strength or stiffness of it. My standard neck shape will suite most people. Custom neck shapes can also be created depending on you personal requirements.

Of course for you southpaw players, your choices for guitars have now expanded. Please specify if you require a left-handed guitar.
The options open to us are almost endless. I will guide you through these design features to help you choose the right measurements. The more information I can get concerning your particular needs the better fit your guitar will have.
